Due to COVID-19 restrictions, our events are available for online participation.
Our virtual open mic is to highlight original songwriters, poets and storytellers. All the material that you perform on open mic must be original works created by you, rather than cover songs.
To sign up, head on over to https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScv8X8zOFQdB78Xb1cShhg7ibI6CY2KkO2Ix8GeXv5bkrupig/viewform
A few days before the event, you will receive an email from firstname.lastname@example.org that has a link for you to join the livestream, as well as some instructions. All artists are accepted and are placed in the open mics on a first-come, first-served basis. If this month is full, you will be on the calendar for the next! For viewing, our Virtual Open-Mic will be live-streamed from our YouTube Page, Wild Rose Moon Media, found here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHN44lIDurLXf-6xX9uUkAQ
We use StreamYard for our show, and it works best if you use a laptop or desktop with a webcam and mic, and a recent version of Chrome or Firefox. You will also need a strong internet connection (just like Skype or Zoom). Headphones or earbuds are helpful to prevent echoes, and to hear the host interact with you. If you don’t have a laptop or desktop, then you can join on your phone. But the experience is usually best on a laptop/desktop.
If you have never used StreamYard before, don’t worry, it’s very simple! Please log on before you are scheduled to perform, to check that the audio and video is coming through. Please note, we can not adjust your level on our end, so if you are too loud and distort, or too quiet and hard to hear, we can not change it. We recommend using headphones or earbuds so that you can hear the host interact with you. Please review this instructional link for details on how to use StreamYard https://support.streamyard.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043291612-Guest-instructions
While it is a virtual event, please remember to watch the other performers and interact with them and the audience through the chat; we want everyone in our open mic community to feel appreciated.
Lastly, due to social media limitations, we can not verbally announce things like CDs for sale, but we can, and certainly will, post any links you have to your website, Bandcamp, etc. So, please send us the links in advance and we will post them in the comments during your performance. (Alternatively, you can also post them!)
